The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce supports the City of Coquitlam’s efforts to review and consolidate industrial zones in the city. The consolidation of industrial zones will make it easier for businesses to set up in Coquitlam and will help diversify the local economy. The City proposes to consolidate the nine current industrial zones into three broader zones, allowing a greater range of use in industrial areas. Areas affected include the United Boulevard area and the southern side of Barnet Highway.

“Reducing the number of zones in Coquitlam makes economic sense. Flexible zoning will attract more business, create more local jobs, and boost the local economy. This is a good step towards increasing the region’s appeal to business, reducing the red tape.” – Michael Hind, Executive Director, Tri-Cities Chamber

The process is currently undergoing a public consultation process that started on July 4th and will continue until August 7th. The Chamber has asked City staff to extend the consultation process to give business an appropriate window to analyze the impacts of the changes. City staff have assured the Chamber that they will be flexible with receiving feedback and as long as business is providing input, staff will consider it. The Chamber will be working with the City to engage its members in the public consultation process.

The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce is a proactive network of business-minded individuals that are committed to acting as an accessible, visible, supportive and reciprocal resource to our members and the Tri-Cities at large, communicating their collective voice to help shape a prosperous business community.
