The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce is pleased to host its 7th annual Economic Summit on Tuesday, May 16 at the Executive Plaza Hotel & Conference Centre. Hear from thought-leaders and network while enjoying a delicious buffet breakfast.


KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

David Eby | Premier of British Columbia

Prior to politics, Premier David Eby’s work on human rights and democratic freedoms was recognized by the United Nations Association in Canada, and the B.C. Human Rights Coalition. He was an adjunct professor of law at the University of British Columbia, president of the HIV/AIDS Legal Network, and served on the Vancouver Foundation’s Health and Social Development Committee. From 2009 to 2013, he also ran the B.C. Civil Liberties Association as executive director.

As BC’s 37th Premier, he hit the ground running, taking immediate action on issues important to people. From rate freezes and credits to help British Columbians with rising prices, to a public safety and prolific offenders plan, to increasing internationally trained doctors and nurses, to protecting renters from evictions and removing barriers to help more build more housing across the province, Premier Eby is continuing to focus on tackling problems impacting British Columbians. 


Jean-François Perrault | Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist, Scotiabank

Jean-François Perrault joined Scotiabank in 2015 as Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist. He leads a team of Economists to support Scotiabank’s domestic and international business lines and clients from retail to capital markets, providing Scotiabank's senior executives, business lines and customers with perspectives, insights and forecasts on economic, financial market and policy developments.  

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Jean-François held prominent roles with the federal government, the Bank of Canada, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

MODERATOR

Hayley Woodin | Editor-in-Chief, Business in Vancouver Media Group

Hayley Woodin is the Editor-in-Chief of Business in Vancouver Media Group, a division of the largest business news group in Western Canada. She is a North American correspondent for BBC Radio's Business Matters program, an Overseas Press Club Foundation Scholar, a Pulitzer Travelling Fellow, a Pulitzer Center Fellow and a Gumshoe Reporting Fellow. In 2022, Hayley graduated at the top of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism class, as valedictorian, with a master’s of science degree (honours) in journalism. She has more than a decade of experience working in media relations, communications and journalism.

Hayley is a regular speaker, emcee and moderator at corporate and community events. She is a proud board director of the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation, Kwantlen Polytechnic University Alumni Association and White Rock Youth Ambassador Program Society, and chair of KPU's journalism program advisory committee.

Edward Chiang | Co-Founder & CEO, Moment Energy

Edward Chiang co-founded Moment Energy in January 2020 with the goal that access to clean and reliable energy becomes a universal human right by upcycling electric vehicle batteries. He is the company's CEO and leads its growth strategy and as well as ensures the company has the resources needed as it grows as a foremost expert in EV battery end-of-life.

Edward is experienced working with investors, government agencies, and grant providers to ensure that Moment Energy has the necessary capital to achieve its plan to scale to a billion-dollar revenue company. Prior to founding Moment Energy, Edward worked in various technical roles, including hardware manufacturing, provincial logistics optimization, and nuclear research for the government of Canada.

Edward holds a degree in Mechatronics Systems Engineering. In his free time he is an officer in the Canadian Forces working with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and flying gliders and single-engined aircraft teaching 12-18 year-old's how to fly.


Jade Herrmann | Founder & CEO, Yoggu!

Jade Herrmann is CEO and Founder of plant-based yogurt company, Yoggu! Yoggu! makes a naturally thick and creamy coconut yogurt with only the highest quality ingredients and manufactures every cup in-house at its 12,500sq ft manufacturing facility in Coquitlam, BC.

Yoggu! is now available in grocery stores across Canada. In 2022, BC Food & Beverage awarded Yoggu! Emerging Business of the Year, and Jade Herrmann was honored as Woman Entrepreneur of the Year. 


Andre Isakov | Manager of Economic Development, City of Coquitlam

Andre Isakov is the Manager of Economic Development with the City of Coquitlam. Andre is passionate about community economic development, placemaking, as well as land-use planning through partnerships that promote inclusive economic and cultural development. Andre is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP), member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP), as well as a Landscape Architect and a member of the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects (BCSLA) and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA). Andre is a volunteer board director with the Whistler Centre for Sustainability and is a co-author of the 2015 book Small Business and the City: The Transformative Potential of Small Scale Entrepreneurship published by the Rotman-University of Toronto Press.


Jeanette Jackson | CEO, Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre

Jeanette is an experienced CEO and entrepreneur with broad experience in technology, business development, marketing, and operations. As the CEO of Foresight, Jeanette has led rapid growth, transforming a regional organization into Canada’s largest cleantech accelerator. Since 2018, under her leadership, Foresight has expanded accelerator programs from one province to national, built a vibrant Industry Innovation Program, and launched a sectoral approach to accelerate cleantech innovation. Jeanette is a frequent speaker, media guest, and advisor to industry and government.

Prior to joining Foresight, Jeanette was founding CEO of Light-Based Technologies, which she built into a thriving enterprise with venture capital supports and a successful personal exit in 2011. As President of The Brag Company, she oversaw the complete restructuring of the business and sale of the company in just two years. As an Executive in Residence with Foresight, Jeanette advised more than 20 ventures in several markets including bio-energy, electric vehicles, smart buildings, water tech, robotics and wind.
