This presentation, presented by Kathleen Lord-Black, U.S. trained Immigration and Customs Lawyer, and Jim Pettinger, President of UCanTrade, Inc., will focus on the steps necessary for importing and shipping into the U.S., including storage and freight management issues.  The presentation will discuss when and where to present entry documents and file duties, how to become a non-resident U.S. importer, how to avoid inadvertent violations of U.S. trademark and brand name protection laws, registration with the U.S. FDA, examination and release of goods, customs bonds, obtaining an importer number in the U.S., as well as other import issues.  The presentation will discuss the role of the private-sector experts who specialize in importing, such as customs brokers, lawyers and consultants.

This session is for businesses of any size that wish to expand into the U.S. market by selling a product  in the U.S., whether the product is grown or manufactured in Canada or in another country. 

The attendees will gain a basic understanding of the U.S. import procedures and requirements, as well as possible strategies for creating a minimal taxable and immigration presence in the U.S.  They will obtain a step-by-step guide regarding exporting from Canada, and importing into the U.S.

The seminar will provide 2 credits of Professional Development Credit and will help Canadian tax and legal professionals, as well as Canadian businesses, broaden their understanding of U.S. Import laws and regulations. Certificates of completion will be provided upon request.
