Facilitating Caring Spaces in Your Role Series
March 7, 2023 (10:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (PST)
Description
You are invited to join community facilitator, Luna Aixin 月爱心 (They/Them) as they host an in-depth journey and exploration into building "CARING SPACES” and gain insights into their journey to be a better facilitator.
We hope these sessions will support you to facilitate Caring Spaces in your role and bring an anti-oppressive lens to your team meetings, volunteer orientations, English classes, workshops, etc. Over four sessions, Luna will share stories, lessons, insights, discussions, reflections, and exercises of their process to create spaces of care through language, cultural knowledge, ancestral connections, hosting, decolonization, anti-oppression, and their identity as a multi-racial, non-binary, disabled and neurodivergent settler.
The “Facilitating caring spaces in your role” schedule is the following. Each session will cover different topics. To register, please click here.
*Please note that you will need to register for each session separately. Tickets are very limited, and registration will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis.*
Session 2: PARTICIPANTS + SPACE (Building Safer + Brave Space + Caring Space)
March 7th (Tuesday): 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM - virtual
This session involves stories, discussions, and exercises, taking a deep dive into the elements of spacemaking with the participants in mind and heart. We will work with community guidelines such as Brave Space, Safer Space, etc, and explore how to generate a space of care throughout facilitated sessions. Each participant will also begin to build their own caring space guide.
Session 3: FACILITATOR + PROCESS (Facilitating the space)
March 14th (Tuesday): 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM - virtual
This session will focus on the facilitation process and journey, everything from pre- to post-session, as well as the role of the facilitator in holding space during sessions. We will also address uncomfortable topics, tricky group dynamics, and emerging situations with a care and justice approach. Participants will continue to build their caring space guide.
Session 4: SUMMARY + CELEBRATE (Closing + Affirmations)
March 22nd (Wednesday): 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM - *in person* (Coquitlam Library - Room 137)
We will bring everything together in this last session and share our learnings with each other in person. Participants will leave the 4 sessions with their own caring space guide (a combination of their individual approaches and perspectives and resources developed by Luna and the group).
