Part of our Variety Series, Exultation is an intoxicating mix of music and storytelling, made in collaboration by classical pianist Sarah Hagen and spoken-word artist Brendan McLeod. Sarah Hagen, the 2015 BC Touring Council Artist of the Year, will perform all thirteen preludes of Rachmaninoff’s Opus 32, interspersed with stories and poems from Brendan McLeod, the former Canadian SLAM champion. The result of this unique collaboration is a narrative journey that focuses on Rachmaninoff’s life – his exile from Russia, his battle with depression, his tireless work ethic, and his dedication to beauty. Centered by Hagen’s intricate and passionate rendition of Rachmaninoff’s compositions, Exultation is a stirring, unique exploration of how to make the world worthy of its music.
