INFO SESSION: Proposed Tax Changes

INFO SESSION: Proposed Tax Changes

September 22, 2017 (9:00 AM - 11:00 AM) (PDT)

Description

Registration is now CLOSED

Join tax specialist, Adam Plank CPA, CGA from Rise Advisors to discuss the proposed tax changes and how they will affect your business if approved.

The federal government has proposed tax changes that seek to eliminate or restrict ways that business owners can save on taxes. The three main issues identified include sprinkling income with family members, saving passive investment income in a corporation, and converting a corporation's income into capital gains.

These changes will have a direct, negative impact on small and medium businesses, setting off a chain reaction of unintended consequences. To date, the government has indicated that they intend to move ahead with these tax changes once the consultation period ends on October 2.

Adam will discuss
  • an outline of the proposals
  • a few scenarios and related tax results
  • and answer your questions.
This session will not review:
  1. A detailed tax technical review of the draft legislation.
  2. An evaluation of whether the proposals are "right" or "wrong" from a policy perspective.
  3. Responding to the tone and rhetoric of the proposals and the politicians and related social medial responses.
For more information on the proposed changes and how you can make a difference, read the editorial by CEO, Michael Hind, here.
