Description

Families, Furry Friends, and Rotary District 5040 Come Together for a Heartwarming Tradition in North Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Vancouver

November 30 - December 1, 2024, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

For almost three decades, Korna Pet’s annual “Pet Photos with Santa” has brought together local families and their pets for a beloved holiday tradition. This year, with the backing of Rotary District 5040, the event is back and bigger than ever, benefiting both local animal charities and Rotary clubs, who are joining hands to make the holiday season brighter.

The event will be held across Korna Pet locations in North Vancouver, Coquitlam, and Vancouver on November 30 and December 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year, it’s a joyful collaboration between Korna Pet and the Rotary Clubs of Lions Gate, Arbutus, and Cambie. Each location will be managed by a different club, with each donation shared between the host club and animal-focused charities such as the Regional Animal Protection Society (RAPS) and BC Guide Dog Society, helping both our two-legged and four-legged friends.

A Community Tradition Rooted in Compassion and Connection
Since its inception nearly 30 years ago, “Pet Photos with Santa” has grown into a cherished event, with some families returning year after year to capture their pets’ holiday spirit. For many, the photos have become a staple in family Christmas cards, a tradition that speaks to the quality and care Korna Pet puts into every festive photo.

“It’s so much more than just a photo,” says Korna Pet founder. “Each snapshot captures the joy, love, and excitement of the season. We’ve watched families grow, new pets arrive, and even said goodbye to a few old friends over the years. It’s truly become a family reunion of sorts, and we couldn’t be happier to share it with Rotary District 5040.”

Overcoming the Pandemic and Strengthening Community Bonds

The event’s continuity was briefly interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, but thanks to the efforts of Michael Cowhig from the Arbutus Rotary Club, it was able to resume last year. As fellow Rotarians, Korna Pet’s team worked closely with Cowhig to explore ways to elevate the event and bring Rotary on board as a committed partner. This year, with full support from the Lions Gate, Arbutus, and Cambie Rotary Clubs, the event has blossomed into a district-wide celebration of community giving.

“Michael’s passion for the event and his dedication to Rotary really inspired us,” Korna Pet’s founder shares. “Together, we envisioned making this a full-fledged Rotary event, where local clubs not only help run the event but also share in the donations, creating a ripple effect of goodwill in our community.”

Support Local Businesses, Especially Kitsilano, Facing Subway Construction Challenges
As we enter another holiday season, we’re reminded of how important it is to shop local and support our community. With the ongoing subway construction near our Kitsilano location, local support means more than ever. We deeply appreciate the resilience and loyalty of our Kitsilano community members, who continue to visit us amid these challenges. Every purchase, photo, and holiday visit truly makes a difference to keep this location thriving as construction continues for the next two years.

We warmly invite Vancouverites to show their love for local businesses, especially this holiday season. Visit our Kitsilano store, capture holiday memories, and take part in our fundraising efforts. Together, we can ensure that cherished local spaces endure and grow.

A Legacy of Giving Back
Each donation at the event helps drive local impact, with half going directly to the supporting Rotary Club, and the other half supporting animal care and rescue initiatives chosen by each club. This joint commitment between Rotary District 5040 and Korna Pet to support local causes reflects a shared passion for uplifting the community.

“Every dollar raised is meaningful to us,” says Arpita, store manager of the Coquitlam Korna Pet. “We’ve seen firsthand how these donations help bring services, care, and comfort to animals in need, and it’s a privilege to share that with our customers and Rotary friends.”

As North Vancouver’s Korna Pet prepares for its 30th anniversary next year, the store team reflects on their nearly three-decade journey with immense gratitude and pride. “To all the families who’ve made this event a tradition and to our Rotary partners, we are deeply thankful. This event embodies the heart of Korna Pet, and we look forward to celebrating many more Christmases together,” shares the founder.
