MP Ron McKinnon's Seniors Advisory Council Meeting

MP Ron McKinnon's Seniors Advisory Council Meeting

July 6, 2017 (1:30 PM - 3:30 PM) (PDT)

Description

In May the Federal Government passed a motion (M-106) to develop a National Seniors Strategy. Essentially, this motion asks the Standing Committee of Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities to study and report back to the House on the development of a National Seniors Strategy.  It also strengthens the mandate of the National Seniors Council so it collaborates with the government to identify reviews and analysis, diversify its representativeness and provide advice on implementing the Strategy noted above.

Ron would like your feedback on the direction of the strategy, specifically relating to the themes of:  (1) access to housing, (2) income security, and (3) strategies that will improve the overall quality of life and well-being for seniors.  Ron will forward your ideas for incorporation into the HUMA Study. Once HUMA Committee has completed its National Seniors Strategy study and tabled a report in the House of Commons, the National Seniors’ Council will review it and advise Cabinet on implementation.

If you are unable to attend, please feel free to send me any notes or ideas you have, and I will forward to Ron on your behalf.

This meeting is open to the public as well, please feel free to invite your network. I would appreciate if  you could please send me an RSVP so I have an idea of numbers. The Room holds 50 people, so RSVP’s will first go to council members and their guests.
