Speaker Series: History of South Asian Imperial Citizens as Indo-Canadian Pioneers and their contributions as Defenders of the Crown
September 21, 2017 (7:00 PM - 8:00 PM) (PDT)
Description
Why are certain histories covered, discussed, and inquired about, while others remain hidden? Going beyond the old tropes of colonised histories, this presentation will flesh out in detail the Indo-Canadian community's pioneer experience within the events leading to the ejection of the Komagata Maru from Canadian waters in July 1914 and the subsequent outbreak of the Great War in August 1914. Join Steven Purewal, community historian, curator and Managing Director of Indus Media Foundation Canada, as he presents the side of history you didn’t learn in school. Registration required. Held at City Centre Library Coquitlam, Room 136 & 137. $10 per adult $5 per child (12 years & under), no charge for under 5 years old
